Aug 6th 2007 HGSCC member Dawn Erickson (left above) e-mailed us the following report about one of our biggest accomplishments to date.
'Jim and I were in Ghazni last week and delivered the very special blood storage refrigerator to the Ghazni City hospital. We were not sure if were going to Ghazni due to the unexepected Korean hostage situation but then Zia Wali, the Ghazni Province Governor's assistant, was able to come to Kabul with two trucks and 17 Policemen to take us and the refridgerator back to Ghazni. The refridgerator was delivered succesfully to the Mayor and to Zia Gul at the hospital, as you can see.'

A small, growing organization of ordinary Americans living in Hayward and the Northern California Bay Area, HGSCC invites you to join us as we accomplish Person to Person Diplomacy and International Aid. Some of our members travel to Afghanistan, and we have hosted visitors from there as well. This is our 2nd year of funding and supporting our two Widows Literacy Classes for 85 women at Ghazni's Jehan Malika School. This year we also provided the blood refrigearator and a sizeable list of sporting equipment as requested by Ghazni's Mayor, and we have a generator ready to ship from Kabul when the road is clear or a guarded convoy is available.
However, there is much, much more to do.
We invite you to become members of our Committee, to come to our monthly meetings and/or to participate with us in other ways. There is much work to be done, much assistance to provide and many more friendships to form.
As of Nov 1st, 2007 our members Dawn Erickson and Jim Springer - who spend much of each year in Kabul - are waiting day by day to complete another HGSCC project. Again as per the request of Ghazni's mayor and in this case Library Staff too, we have purchased a Generator to power a computer room in Ghazni's new Library, but the delivery arrangements are still 'up in the air'.
A Ghazni resident arrives at the hospital via a typical method of transportation for the very sick.
As everyone knows, there is much, much more to do. We invite you to become members of our Committee, to come to our monthly meetings and/or to participate with us in other ways. With a dozen very active members, 75 members paying dues and with community support of our ANNUAL FUND RAISER (5:30 - 7:30PM November 8th 2007 at the Hayward City Hall Rotunda) we invite you to join us in the thrill of delivering help directly to people who truly need it and who really, really appreciate it.
Meetings
The Hayward-Ghazni Sister City Committee meets at 7 PM the first Wednesday of MOST months in room 5, Centennial Hall. E-mail one of our officers (see below) to verify the next meeting date. Our November meeting is replaced by our Annual Fund Raiser.
Directions
Centennial Hall is above and behind the Safeway on Foothill Blvd. in Hayward.
When driving North on Foothill Blvd. go past the Safeway, then take a right on City Center Drive. Take the second driveway to the right; this is the entrance to the Centennial hall Parking lot. It is literally on the roof of the Safeway. Go to the far end of the lot. Go into Centennial Hall. Room 5 is straight ahead at the end of the hallway.
